Fencing weapons such as Foil, Epee and Sabre fencing
There are three different types of weapon used in the modern sport: the epee, the foil, and the sabre. Each has its own different styles and set of rules.
While many fencers do fence in all three weapons, it is more usual for someone to choose one and specialise in that. Therefore, asking a group of fencers which weapon is best, is guaranteed to start a long, loud and passionate “discussion” about the relative merits of each weapon, with each participant doggedly defending their own weapon, whilst calling into question the intellectual capacity and ability of anyone who thinks differently.
However there is no “best” weapon, it's all down to personal choice and fencing style.
Our Norfolk fencing club has many active members using all disciplines of weapons, fencing with foil, epee and sabre, and can offer coaching for any of these weapons.
